After a successful career in the for-profit segment, including 10 years as an industrial sales representative and 13 years as an attorney who rose through the organization to lead a major business unit of Westlaw (now Thomson Reuters), Joni chose to exit the hectic race to the top of the corporate ladder, enter the nonprofit world, do good and give back. Joni chose University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Ohio and served as its Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations. After leading her team to raise over 28.5 million dollars in just over 3 years (more dollars than had been raised from corporations and foundations in the history of UH’s fundraising efforts), she retired in May of 2008.
In Luke 12:48, Jesus instructs his disciples that “to whom much is given, much shall be required.” With this mandate, Joni continues her life’s work as a volunteer for a number of causes. Currently, she is a volunteer at EPrep, a Cleveland charter school, a volunteer at Leadership Lorain County, where she recently completed her Board term, an Alumni Board member of Penn State Beaver County Campus, 9+ year volunteer at Harbinger Hospice, a new volunteer at both Sacred Heart Chapel and Under the Wing, a prison program where inmates foster abandoned dogs and cats, and an advisor to Common Ground, a mind, body and spirit center. She coaches on a pro-bono basis, 3 to 5 times a week in the areas of professional development and spirituality.
Joni received a BS in Marketing from The Pennsylvania State University and a JD from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. She and her husband of 25 years, along with their two dogs, live in Avon Lake, Ohio.
