Thomas Jay Oord, Ph.D.

Thomas Jay Oord, Ph.D., is Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Northwest Nazarene University, Nampa, Idaho where he is a multiple-award winning lecturer. He serves on the executive council of several scholarly groups, including the Open and Relational Theologies group of the American Academy of Religion (AAR), Christian Theological Research Fellowship, Biologos, and the Wesleyan Philosophical and Theological Societies. Dr. Oord has written or edited more than 20 books, including Defining Love: A Philosophical, Scientific, and Theological Engagement (Brazos), and The Nature of Love: A Theology (Chalice). As well as being a professor, writer, and researcher, Dr. Oord also serves as an ordained minister. He has been associated with the Institute for Research on Unlimited Love as a research consultant since 2001. Dr. Oord and his wife, Cheryl, have three daughters.
