College Scholarship Essay Contest
How I Live by the Deep Golden Rule and Flourish

The Deep Golden Rule is “Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You.” This takes us deeper than just refusing to do harmful things. It means that we use our talents to contribute to the lives of others making their security and happiness as meaningful to us as our own. When we do so with kindness we are practicing a life of love, not just to the nearest and dearest, but also to the neediest and to all the people we encounter without exception. Love All Means All.

Do you feel that your ability to truly flourish—to live a life of meaning, purpose, contribution, and joy—has been greater when you have lived by this rule? How might your future well-being be related to expanding these kinds of experiences to include strangers and even enemies?

The 2019 Contest Has Ended

High school juniors and seniors were invited to submit a 1,000-word essay highlighting in two sections:

  • How and why do you flourish when you live by the Deep Golden Rule?
  • Focus in on one of the seven core big questions below.
