Authority Magazine Interview
Dear Friends:
Sometimes an interviewer has just the right touch to bring out one's highest self. This story captures my journey both in the world of deeply forgetful people and with Sir John and his most beautiful concept of "pure unlimited love," which he personally invited me to carry forward though the Institute. So often he would emphasize that he was not as much interested in human love as in "the love that made humans."
There are four elements to this theory and practice of love
- What is love? When the security and well-being of another is as real and meaningful to you as your own, and sometimes even more so, you love that person.
- How is love expressed? Creativity, celebration, forgiveness, compassion, carefrontation, kind helping, listening carefuĺly, loyalty, and uplifting kind mirth. All are ultimately expressions of the same energy - love. Love is the hub of the wheel and the various expressions are the spokes.
- But on a scale of one to ten, our expressions of love are hardly perfect. I am no great believer in unaided human nature. Our love is often myopic, unwise, unreliable, and impure. So we have to be open to the invasive energy of divine love, like Chagall, WHAuden, St. Francis, Ramanujan, and all those who have felt such perfect love.
- So what is Pure Unlimited Love? Breathe deep and imagine this experience: PUL is the first thing you see when you close your eyes for the last time, hopefully.
Thank you for reading this beautiful interview. Email me if you have questions.
