Title: "Pure Unlimited Love: The Science and Seven Paths of Inner Peace"

Summary: This presentation asks and seeks to answer a number of questions. What is human love? What are its limits? (impure, fluctuation, unwise, myopic, materialistic/based on the work of Sorokin). What is Pure Unlimited Love (PUL) and how does spiritual practice lift it above human love? What are the core expressions of love and why does each one offer healing? (carefrontation/M Scott Peck) (mirth/Norman Cousins) (compassion/ Dalai Lama) (forgiveness/Worthington) (caregiving/Post)) (listening/ Cicely Saunders) (celebration/Sternberg) (creativity/Gordon Kaufman) (respect/Fr. Romano Guardini). How do we experience PUL? (Remembered Experience of Death/Sam Parnia) (Invasive Spiritual Experiences/Chagall, WH Auden) (Nature Mysticism/Emily Carr) (Premonitions/Theresa Cheung) (meditation, mindfulness & prayer) (synchronicities/Post) (music/Samuel Barber). All of these topics will be discussed.
Presenter: Stephen G. Post, Ph.D. An opinion leader and public speaker, Dr. Post (University of Chicago, 1983) has served on the Board of the John Templeton Foundation (2008-2014), which focuses on virtue, spirituality and public life, and is a lifelong member. Post is a leader in research on the benefits of compassionate care in relation to improved patient outcomes and caregiver well-being. At the University of Chicago, Post was a preceptor in both the Pritzker School of Medicine and in the University Core Humanities Program, while also serving as an Elected Fellow in the Nuveen Institute for Advanced Study. He went on to serve as professor of medicine and ethics at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (1988-2008), where he founded and directed the nation's first Master's Program in Bioethics, of which there are now more than 80. At Case he served as Editor-in-Chief of the landmark Encyclopedia of Bioethics, 5 vols. 3rd edition (New York: Macmillan Reference, 2004), the definitive reference work for the field of bioethics and medical humanities. After 20 years in Cleveland he was invited to become Director of the Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care & Bioethics in the Renaissance School of Medicine of Stony Brook University (2008-present). Post was co-recipient (2012) with Edmund D. Pellegrino of the Pioneer Medal for Outstanding Leadership in HealthCare from the National HealthCare Chaplaincy Network, and he received the Kama Book Award in Medical Humanities from World Literacy Canada (2008). Post addressed the U.S. Congress on volunteerism and health, receiving the Congressional Certificate of Special Recognition for Outstanding Achievement. He is co-recipient of the 2019 National Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society Medical Professionalism Award for developing the Professional Identity Formation curriculum at Stony Brook. In 2025 the Master's Program Post founded at Stony Brook in 2010 was ranked 7th of 80 programs nationally by College Factual.
