Duke University's Monthly Spirituality and Health Research Seminar

Dear Friends:

You are invited to a scheduled Zoom seminar on Tuesday, Dec 16, 2025, at 12:00 noon EST (New York Time).

Title: "Pure Unlimited Love: Science and the Seven Paths to Inner Peace"

To be delivered by:
Stephen G. Post, PhD, Professor of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine, Stony Brook University

Summary: In the words of WH Auden, we live in The Age of Anxiety, and as he experienced it, the solution points us toward some sense of inner peace with "spiritual" roots. This became especially evident in the widely reviewed Heart of Religion Survey - a scientific survey of randomly selected U.S. adults. Respondents were interviewed by telephone in English or Spanish in the fall of 2009. About 81% of Americans feel God's love directly, at least once in a while. Almost half (45% of all Americans) feel God's love at least once a day, 9% feel God's love more than once a day, and eight out of ten have this experience at least "once in a while." Almost half (48%) of the respondents who had a strong sense of purpose directly experienced God's love daily or more, as compared with the 14% who had a strong sense of purpose but never experienced divine love. I plan to open a discussion of this survey, and also to focus on five of the seven themes in Pure Unlimited Love: Science and the Seven Paths to Inner Peace (published November 2025): (1) May you give and glow; (2) May you heal with kindness; (3) May you follow your callings; (4) May you know the One Mind; and (6) May you cherish the gift of nature.

Presenter: Stephen G. Post, PhD, serves as President of The Institute for Research on Unlimited Love since its founding as an independent 501 C3 public charity in 2000 in University Circle Cleveland, with the vision and philanthropy of Sir John Templeton. Stephen founded the Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care, & Bioethics at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, after 20 years at Case Western University Medical School. His graduate program at Stony Brook is currently ranked 7th in the nation (just behind Duke, which is ranked 6th). This program was recognized with the 2019 national award for professional identity formation (PIF) by Alpha Omega. Dr. Post continues to be committed by something Sir John Templeton stated to him in 1999, "Love heals.".
